Note from Sis. Stanfill: Jed requested that we have MORE homework, because he loves science. So I have added a few extra fun things to watch and learn about this week. Please do not feel like you have to do every one of these options. BUT if you’re easily getting through the regular homework and want more… DIG IN! (Get it?)

Cultural Enrichment

Navajo Frybread

4 cups flour

2 tablespoons powdered milk

1 tables baking powder

1 ½ cup warm water

1 teaspoon salt

Crisco/shortening or oil for frying

Add baking powder, powdered milk and salt to the flour. Mix together. Add the water to form dough. Knead dough until soft, but not sticky or hard (add flour as needed). Cover with a cloth and allow to stand for about 15 minutes.

Shape dough into 20 balls, then flatten, stretching the dough with hand and fingers until the dough is flat and round. It may be rolled out with a rolling pin. Melt the shortening about 1 inch deep in a frying pan. Fry the dough on one side until golden brown, then turn and finish frying.

Native American TV

FNXFirst Nations Experience channel presents Native American stories and content to create a diverse and entertaining channel across all media platforms 24/7. The unique non-profit channel is the result of a shared vision and values between the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and PBS/KVCR both located in San Bernardino, California. I am not familiar with all of the content but what I have seen on this channel has been informative and fun. Here is a link to this week’s television programming if you are interested in watching Native TV. In Utah, you can find this television station on UEN channel 9.3 or at the website linked above.
